The kitchen island counter top has a unique history behind it.
“We were able to mill some wood from an old cherry tree that had fallen on the property and turn it into a rustic countertop,” says owner Bruce Edenfield. “We also used the wood for the fireplace mantles, bathroom vanities, and railings to the lower level.”
Lots of wood textures and tones can be seen in the kitchen, including the dovetail notching in the walls, the hemlock post and window truss, the beadboard cabinetry and the cherry slab countertop milled from a fallen tree on the property.
The heart of the home is the great room (left). Two woven rocking chairs in front of the hearth is the Edenfields’ favorite for eating, reading, or evening conversation. It’s also the favorite place for their dog Rosie. The formal dining room (below) has space for the whole family during the holidays. The paneled front door has a custom stained glass inset designed by a local artisan.

The kitchen turned out particularly well and incorporates various wood textures. “In addition to the beautiful dovetail notching that you can see on the interior walls, we upgraded our interior posts and trusses to a more hefty hand-hewn hemlock for a dramatic look,” says Mary Anna.

The distinct cherry cabinetry is handmade with recessed beadboard panels for an old-fashioned look. Simple and bright pendant lights hang from the rafters, while task lighting under the cabinets makes it easy to follow a recipe. The modern stainless steel appliances and range hood blend well with the overall rustic theme in the room.
In the master suite 10-foot ceilings add to the spacious feel. French doors lead to the private porch area. A beautiful bentwood willow bed fits the space, as does a checkered reading chair next to a twig table and fisherman’s lamp. A dainty corner cabinet
