and sat up in the loft, both Kevin and I agreed that this should be the location for the master bedroom,” recalls Sue. “We then changed the original plan to open up the second floor bedroom space so that there was just a railing between the bed and the beautiful view.”
“We’re aware that as we get older we may not want to climb up and down stairs, but hopefully that will keep us young,” says Kevin. “We do have a bedroom on the main floor near the bathroom that our daughter has now, but it will be available for us in the future.”
The sloping lot also gave the Henkes the opportunity to create an exposed basement with added entertainment space and guest quarters.
There is also an exercise room, a game room with a mini kitchen, room for a large screen TV, and a gas fireplace.
A portion of the great room space located near the prow window is for a formal dining room table and hutch (right). The flexible space can be
expanded to enlarge the table and feed a crowd. To accommodate meals, the Henkes decided to bump out the countertops six feet to create a expanded U-shaped kitchen (below) with seating for four. They also strategically placed ceiling lights and accent lights around the room to give it a warm glow.
