Harry and Patsy’s home now includes copper stairway risers. Stained glass windows complement the copper and the wood.

space for the grandchildren.

Within the year, the Finks completed two more bedrooms, a bathroom and game room (all on the third floor). “The views from this level go on forever and is the best place in the house to catch the cool breezes in the summer,” says Harry. “It’s very peaceful up there.”

They also discovered that the brisk winds were constant on the hilltop. “We’ve even had a 40-pound antique milk can blow off the porch,” says Patsy. They decided to use fabricated Lexan thermoplastic (used in NASCAR windshields) storm window covers for the north side of the home to deter the wind and keep

Changes the Finks have made to their home in the past five years:

• Redone all downstairs flooring to cherry and pine

• Built a covered back porch outside the great room with stained glass windows in the roof

• Installed solid copper backsplash in the kitchen.

• Converted third-level attic space into living space: two bedrooms, a bathroom, walk-in closet, and large entertainment room

• Installed built-in cabinets in downstairs master bath

• Built and installed custom light bases for downstairs

• Finished the fireplace flue, installed 80-year-old heirloom oak mantel, solid copper backdrop with a French heating stove, and a corresponding custom oak-and-copper base

• Installed solid copper around shower vanity

• Installed heart pine treated shakes in eaves and front bump-out

And future plans include maple panels for the third-level ceiling!
